A plain-language guide for farms, orchards and agri dealers: what each fertiliser does, when to use it, and how to secure stock before the planting season.
Wheat, grapes, pomegranates, almonds and vegetables all need the right nutrients at the right time. Choosing the correct fertiliser — and having it in the warehouse before the season starts — makes a real difference to yield. This guide explains the main products our agri desk supplies across Afghanistan.
The three main nutrients
- Nitrogen (N) — leaf and stem growth. Main source: urea 46% N.
- Phosphorus (P) — roots, flowering and early growth. Main source: DAP (18-46-0) and MAP.
- Potassium (K) — fruit size, sugar, colour and drought tolerance. Main sources: potassium sulphate (SOP) and potassium chloride.
Common products and how they are used
Urea 46%
The most concentrated solid nitrogen fertiliser. Widely used on wheat and maize, usually split into several applications during the growing season rather than applied all at once.
DAP and MAP
Supply phosphorus with some nitrogen. Typically applied at or before sowing so the young roots can reach it.
NPK blends
Balanced formulas such as 15-15-15 or crop-specific blends give all three nutrients in one bag — convenient for vegetables and mixed farms.
Potassium sulphate (SOP) and water-soluble grades
SOP is favoured for fruit, grapes and vegetables because it supplies potassium and sulphur without chloride. Fully water-soluble grades are made for drip irrigation and foliar feeding in orchards and greenhouses.
Micronutrients
Zinc, iron, boron and other trace elements — often in chelated form — correct deficiencies that show up as yellow leaves or poor fruit set, especially in alkaline soils.
Ordering for the season
- Order well before sowing — demand peaks just before the spring and autumn seasons.
- Available in 50 kg and 25 kg bags, or bulk for dealers and large farms.
- Certificates of analysis supplied with every lot; payment in AFN or USD.
